Come Bird The Gila!

Piñon Jay

Montezuma Quail
We offer a great birding experience in the southwestern corner of New Mexico at any time of the year. Located on the Southwest New Mexico Birding Trail, we offer a variety of habitats close to Spirit Canyon Lodge.

Spring or fall migration is a good time to be here. The Gila National Forest lists 334 birds on their checklist that live here or visit the forest.

We have Pinyon Jays and Montezuma Quail that can be seen on the property or in nearby grasslands. Woodpeckers, sapsuckers, a variety of finches and warblers can be seen during migration. Our visiting birds are used to people and are not shy.

Lake Roberts is located nearby and offers all kinds of water birds. You can get at least 40 species or more walking around the lake and Lodge. We have 6 species of hummingbirds from late March to mid September.
